The HVAC Mechanical Supervisor provides leadership and technicaloversight for the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvementof Florida Tech's HVAC, mechanical, and Building AutomationSystems. The position supervises skilled HVAC and controlspersonnel while ensuring reliable building conditions, preventivemaintenance, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and responsivecustomer service.
The Supervisor also provides mechanical and controls expertise forconstruction, renovations, deferred maintenance, and capitalrenewal projects. The position works closely with Facilitiesleadership, engineers, contractors, other trades, and campusdepartments and serves as emergency‑required personnel during majorequipment failures, hurricanes, and other campus emergencies.
This individual will oversee a staff of skilled trades personneland student workers and will report to the Director of Maintenance.Florida Institute of Technology is a growing, top-ranked universitywith over 2,000,000 square feet of facilities to maintain.
Normal Working Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30PM, and must be available for after-hour call-backs on a 24/7basis. This supervisory position reports to the Director ofMaintenance.
Oversee daily operation and performance of campus HVAC, mechanical,and Building Automation Systems. Order parts or full units andensure systems provide reliable temperature, humidity, ventilation,and environmental conditions while minimizing disruptions toUniversity operations.
Direct, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned HVAC and controlspersonnel. Remove obstacles for staff, establish priorities, assignwork, monitor performance, provide technical guidance, and promoteemployee development, accountability, and safe workpractices.
Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for chillers,air handling units, pumps, controls, and related mechanicalequipment. Monitor equipment condition and recurring failures to improve reliability, extend equipment life, and reduce emergencyrepairs.
Oversee BAS programming, scheduling, alarms, trending, sequences ofoperation, integration, and troubleshooting. Use system data andoperational knowledge to improve comfort, equipment performance,reliability, and energy efficiency.
Provide HVAC, mechanical, and controls expertise for newconstruction, renovations, and capital projects. Review designs and equipment selections and coordinate with engineers, contractors,project managers, and Facilities staff through construction,commissioning, turnover, and warranty.
Prioritize and coordinate HVAC and BAS corrective maintenance, andensure work is completed and appropriately documented. Communicatesignificant problems, outages, repair schedules, and serviceimpacts to Facilities leadership and campus customers.
Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and operatingcosts through BAS programming, equipment optimization, scheduling,and mechanical improvements. Support indoor air qualityinvestigations and balance energy conservation with comfort andoperational requirements.
Assist with operating budgets, deferred maintenance, capitalrenewal planning, cost estimates, equipment replacement, and scopesof work. Support procurement and contractor selection whilepromoting cost-conscious use of University resources.
Ensure work complies with University policies, safety requirements,applicable codes, and established procedures. Serve a emergency-required personnel and provide operational support duringhurricanes, utility interruptions, major equipment failures, andother emergencies.
Maintain necessary equipment, system, maintenance, and technicaldocumentation, and coordinate activities with other Facilitiesteams. Perform additional duties as assigned in support ofFacilities Operations and the University.
