HVAC Mechanic

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

Maintains, repairs, modifies, replaces, installs, and performs routine and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of light and heavy-duty heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for existing facilities and those under renovation. Inspects installations of HVAC equipment installed by others. Routine and preventive maintenance includes operating, cleaning, inspecting, troubleshooting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on the aforementioned equipment. Reads, understands and interprets blueprints, drawings, floor plans, schedules, and manufacturers' operating and/or maintenance specifications related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and special equipment, building structures, and finishes. May assist other maintenance personnel such as electricians, plumbers, maintenance technicians, sheet metal workers, etc. Responds to routine and emergency maintenance requests from building occupants.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Maintains and repairs, modifies, replaces, and installs automatic temperature controls, controllers, relays, variable drives, valve and damper actuators, pneumatic and electronic control systems, boiler fire control systems, and similar equipment.
  • Operates, adjusts, and maintains computerized energy management and control systems for HVAC equipment, chillers, boilers, and similar systems.
  • Maintains and repairs refrigeration equipment including chillers, air conditioning units, freezers, coolers, and dehumidifiers.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance on HVAC systems such as steam, gas, electrical, and hot water heating systems, VAV boxes, air handling units, ducts, pumps, valves, thermostats, pneumatic systems, coils, DX Units, and related equipment.
  • Utilizes refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment in compliance with EPA regulations, maintaining proper records.
  • Performs physical tasks including lifting (minimum 50 pounds), climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces and extreme temperatures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Technical School of HVAC with four years of related experience, or work experience substituting for education.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Type I, II, or III Certification required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, minimum age 21, with at least three years of driving experience and an acceptable MVR.
  • Demonstrable skills in installation, airflow measurement, and compressor overhaul.
