Job description

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, this role is responsible for maintaining and repairing refrigeration, air conditioning, air handling, and heat transfer equipment at the hospital and off-site facilities. The technician may also assist other departments as directed.

Essential Functions

1. Install, maintain, and repair commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical systems following blueprints and engineering specifications.
2. Diagnose issues, repair defects, and perform preventive maintenance on these systems.
3. Service and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical systems, including disassembly for repairs.
4. Perform chiller maintenance, service pumps, strainers, filters, and medical equipment.
5. Test and rebuild vacuum pumps, damper motors, and water/refrigeration coils.
6. Work with components in air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, and mechanical systems.
7. Establish system performance parameters using manufacturer's specifications and test equipment to ensure proper operation.
8. Read, interpret, and generate sequences of operation for HVAC systems.
9. Utilize DDC programming code for system control and troubleshooting.
10. Perform test and balance work to ensure system efficiency.
11. Repair malfunctioning equipment, replace defective parts, and maintain service records.
12. Install, remove, store, and record the locations of HVAC equipment within the hospital.
13. Service and maintain thermostats, VAV boxes, TECs, lab ventilation equipment, and fan coil units.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED and vocational training.
• At least three years of relevant HVAC experience.
• Knowledge of welding, soldering, braising, electronics, plumbing, mechanics, refrigeration principles, and blueprint reading.

Preferred

• LIC-Mechanical Contractor license (Michigan)
• CRT-Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification
