Job summary

Fortis College Columbus is seeking an experienced HVAC/R Instructor to teach within our career-focused HVAC program. The role involves delivering courses, guiding learners in classroom and laboratory settings, and supporting student success.

You will maintain accurate gradebooks, communicate expectations clearly, and participate in ongoing professional development. A background in higher education teaching is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• HVAC/R program completion with Certificate or Diploma; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years full-time HVAC/R Technician experience.
• Certifications/licensure: EPA Universal, OSHA 30; NCCER/NATE/HVAC Excellence optional.
• Teaching experience in higher education preferred but not required.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, written communication, organizational and planning skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned HVAC/R courses using approved curricula and materials.
• Provide engaging learning environments in class, lab, and clinic.
• Distribute syllabi and communicate expectations/outcomes clearly.
• Maintain gradebooks in Canvas and track attendance.
• Advise students and monitor attendance to support success.
• Complete midterm evaluations and provide feedback.
• Participate in campus meetings and events as required.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and document growth.

Fortis College in Columbus, OH is seeking an experienced HVAC/R Technician to teach in our career-focused HVAC Program. The Role

Reports to: Program Lead, Program Director, or Dean/Director of Education
As a full-time Faculty member, you will teach assigned HVAC/R courses, facilitate student learning, provide academic support and advising, and contribute to an engaging educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses using approved curricula and instructional materials.
• Create an engaging learning environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
• Provide students with course syllabi and clearly communicate expectations and learning outcomes.
• Grade assignments and maintain accurate gradebooks in Canvas.
• Record and maintain accurate student attendance.
• Support student success through advising, attendance monitoring, and intervention activities.
• Complete midterm evaluations and provide timely feedback to students.
• Maintain classroom and laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety standards.
• Attend campus meetings, workshops, orientation activities, and graduation ceremonies as required.
• Complete annual professional development and maintain documentation of continued professional growth.
• Follow institutional policies and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Completion of an HVAC/R program resulting in a Certificate of Completion or Diploma; an associate degree is preferred but not required
• A minimum of 3 years of full-time experience as an HVAC/R Technician
• Certifications/Licensure:
  • EPA Universal
  • OSHA 30
  • NCCER - not required but desired
  • NATE - not required but desired
  • HVAC Excellence - not required but desired
  • Certified Subject Matter Educator or Certified Master HVACR Educator is not required but highly desired
• Prior higher education/postsecondary teaching experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, written communication, organizational, and planning skills.

Work Schedule: Hours vary based on assigned courses and academic term schedules.

Work Environment: Interior/Office, Classroom, Laboratory, and Clinical Settings as applicable.
