Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Controls Systems Team Leader in Huntington Beach, CA to manage a branch operations team of technicians and designers. You will assign projects, coordinate resources, and ensure safe, compliant delivery of HVAC control systems for complex contracts.

The role requires a technical associate’s degree with substantial field experience, supervisory capability, and strong communication of technical material to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Technical associate’s degree with six years of field experience or eight years of equivalent field and site coordination experience in HVAC.
• Hands-on experience in design and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
• Ability to communicate technical material clearly to a non-technical audience.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Solid coaching and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of control theory and HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of project accounting, costing principles, and contracting.
• Ability to review and interpret contract terms and conditions and support site coordination on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of system technicians and system designers in day-to-day branch operations.
• Assign projects to lead systems specialists and coordinate needed resources.
• Provide site coordination support on higher-complexity projects, including subcontractor coordination and conflict resolution.
• Review contract terms and assess scope impacts from client bulletins and scheduling changes.
• Support change order activity and assist in identifying opportunities for additional work.
• Assist with schedule of values development on projects requiring detailed billing.
• Build and maintain relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Ensure work meets legal requirements and high ethical standards.
• Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, reviews, and development plans for direct reports.
• Hire, retain, coach, and develop team members while supporting branch training.
