Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Solutions Dev Engineer - HVAC Construction to own the pre-sales estimating process and craft technically sound, competitive proposals.

You will translate customer needs into complete offers and partner with sales and operations to align scope, pricing, and solutions for midsize and large projects. You will work closely with internal teams, review documents and specifications, validate subcontractor pricing, and contribute to bid reviews to ensure accurate,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 5 years of experience estimating large commercial HVAC projects.
• Experience in a similar role within a technology-driven environment.
• Strong ability to lead the estimating process independently and keep multiple priorities moving.
• Solid understanding of working in a team environment and collaborating closely with sales and operations.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and commercial details clearly.
• Proactive, self-starting attitude with strong ownership and follow-through.
• Hands-on experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio, and MS Project.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements into complete, competitive commercial offers for HVAC construction projects.
• Develop accurate estimates and proposals for midsize and larger projects using approved tools and procedures.
• Work closely with sales and operations to clarify scope, assumptions, pricing, and solution options.
• Review customer documentation, specifications, and request details to identify risks, deviations, and interpretation gaps.
• Validate subcontractor pricing and incorporate third-party quotes into your calculations.
• Prepare for and contribute to pre-bid review meetings, bid clarifications, and proposal reviews.
• Manage and maintain data from previous calculations to improve future pricing accuracy and consistency.
• Support specification deviations, technical clarifications, and commercial questions throughout the bidding process.
• Conduct site visits when needed to better understand project requirements and site conditions.
• Coordinate inputs from internal stakeholders to ensure proposals are complete, timely, and well structured.
