Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking an experienced pre-sales engineer to lead HVAC controls and Building Automation System (BAS) pre-sales efforts. You will guide design, estimation, and coordination with Sales, Operations, subcontractors, and digital teams in a multi-market U.S. environment.

You will develop scopes, cost estimates, RFIs/RFPs, and reviews of bids, while aligning with customer requirements and project objectives. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 5 to 7 years of controls sales, applications engineering, estimating, or operations experience supporting HVAC systems and BAS (ATC/BMS).
• Ability to work on U.S. restricted projects.
• Experience coordinating with dispersed teams across multiple U.S. markets.
• Experience with pre-sales development, estimating, and interpretation of specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre-sales engineering, design, and estimation for HVAC controls and BAS opportunities (plan-and-spec, retrofit, design-build).
• Develop scopes, control schematics, material lists, and cost estimates using project tools.
• Support opportunity qualification by providing technical guidance to sales teams.
• Coordinate pre-bid reviews and manage project cost data through booking and releases.
• Prepare subcontractor RFIs and RFPs, evaluate bids, and support scope definition.
• Interpret specifications, identify gaps, and propose practical solutions.
• Partner with Sales and Operations to communicate the technical value proposition.
• Collaborate with OpenBlue Digital team to define integrated automation and cloud-based analytics when applicable.
