Job summary

Trane in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Controls Engineer to design hardware and software for small building automation systems. You will apply engineering principles to create cost-effective control solutions and support from contract review through installation and service hand-off.

The role includes on-site surveys, installation drawings, sequences of operations, and potential programming responsibilities; travel within the district and occasional after-hours work may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction, Engineering Technology, or equivalent/related experience.
• Preferred HVAC industry experience such as technician, project management, or estimating; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems, building automation systems, and/or temperature controls.
• Experience with CAD programs; basic electrical drawings and schematics understanding.

Responsibilities

• Design of comfort control and automation systems.
• Review contract documents (mechanical plans, specs, estimates, equipment submittals) for automation design.
• Conduct on-site surveys to determine controls solutions.
• Create installation drawings and sequences of operations for efficient installation.
• Transition documents to field and service departments.
• Possibly handle programming responsibilities.
• Produce as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and assist with transition to service.
• Ensure designs meet project requirements within budget and schedule.
• Maintain customer satisfaction through investigation of concerns and clear communication.
