Job summary

Johnson Controls in Indianapolis seeks an experienced Building Automation Systems Engineer to design, configure, and commission complex control systems for HVAC, fire, and security subsystems. You will work with field teams to ensure quality, timeliness, and efficient operations across projects.

The role requires a technical degree and several years in BAS, knowledge of Metasys, and ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical customers.

Qualifications

• Associate or Technical degree in a relevant field with minimum five years of HVAC BAS experience
• Experience with HVAC building automation systems, equipment, and networking concepts (BAS, DDC controls)
• Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, and building subsystems from design, installation, or commissioning perspectives
• Experience integrating low voltage building subsystems using industry protocols
• Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Strong computer skills, especially drafting tools
• Proactive problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Systems or related) or 2-year technical degree with 10+ years building controls experience (preferred)
• Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys Building Automation System

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems including fire, security, and other low voltage subsystems
• Ensure quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs for field teams
• Develop software programs, commissioning, and testing for proper system operation
• Provide submittals and information to communicate design and operation to customers and installation teams
• Coordinate drawings, equipment schedules, and submittals for installation
• Assist in loading and commissioning of system and network controllers
• Participate in project meetings and provide field change information for as-built drawings
• Support site-specific training for owners/operators
