Job summary

The College of Southern Maryland is seeking an experienced HVAC Maintenance Specialist to maintain reliable operation of campus heating, ventilation, and refrigeration systems. Under general supervision, you will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose problems, and coordinate with contractors to ensure safe, efficient building operations across classrooms, labs, offices, and common areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of HVAC trade program or apprenticeship preferred.
• EPA Section 608 certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required if operating college vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and building systems.
• Diagnose heating, cooling, ventilation, and related equipment failures.
• Repair or replace motors, belts, bearings, sensors, and actuators.
• Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized services.
• Assist with BAS programming, graphics, and control sequences.
• Respond to emergency HVAC failures affecting classrooms or facilities.
• Document work performed and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Support energy conservation and equipment-efficiency initiatives.
