Job summary

Root Edge is seeking a deeply experienced Field Services & Commissioning Lead to own everything after equipment leaves the factory. You will be the technical authority in the field, ensuring transformers and substation equipment perform flawlessly from Day 1 and throughout service life.

Initially hands-on with travel to job sites, you will commission equipment with contractors, troubleshoot in real time, and feed findings back to engineering and manufacturing.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in field services, commissioning, or related technical role with power transformers
• Deep hands-on knowledge of HV transformer design, construction, testing, failure modes
• Proven transformer commissioning experience: oil sampling, DGA, insulation/testing, ratio testing, protection relays, energization
• Strong QA/QC discipline in field operations
• Able to conduct formal root cause analysis and communicate findings clearly
• Experience managing contractors and enforcing technical standards
• Ability to read substation drawings and protection schematics
• Excellent communication with field crews, engineers, and leadership
• Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50–70% at peak)

Responsibilities

• Lead all field commissioning activities for HV transformer deployments and MV equipment
• Be on-site for FATs, SATs, energizations and act as technical contact for contractors
• Interpret diagrams and installation drawings, ensure proper system integration
• Translate field findings into actionable feedback for engineering and manufacturing
• Build and maintain field service processes, SOPs, and service event tracking
