Job summary

HDR Engineering seeks a Substation Engineering Manager in Tampa, FL, to lead the technical execution of high voltage substation projects, guiding engineers and designers to deliver safe, reliable power solutions.

You will partner with the PM to balance scope, schedule, and budget while mentoring staff and contributing to HDR’s employee-owned culture. Strong leadership and communication are required, with some travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or another engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of management experience in substation design.
• Experience with high voltage switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Ability to lead multiple projects and teams across locations.
• Knowledge of IEEE and ANSI design standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical team and execution of project deliverables.
• Develop and implement project execution plans for technical aspects.
• Coach and mentor Project Engineers, EITs, and designers.
• Coordinate quality checks per HDR QMS and deliver a world-class product.
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget in collaboration with the Project Manager.
• Participate in project reviews and develop technical papers for conferences.
