The Prince William County Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking an administrative professionalto serve as our HR Operations Specialist. This role is perfect for someone who ispassionate about people and parks,thrives in a fast-paced environment, dynamic environment, and has a knack for creating a positive and engaging workplace.

As an integral member of the DPR HR team within the Administration Division, you will work alongside a dedicated group of HR professionals, including an HR Manager, (3) HR Analysts, and a part-time HR Technician.

About This Role:

In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to the DPR HR team, managers and employees, ensuring a seamless and engaging employee experience. We’re looking for a highly organized and proactive professional to support the Employee Experience Analyst in driving a positive, engaging workplace culture. This role blends administrative coordination with strategic support to ensure the smooth delivery of key employee experience initiatives.

A strong candidate should have hands-on experience with:

  • Supporting a 12-month onboarding program to ensure a seamless new hire experience
  • Assisting with and facilitating training and professional development programs
  • Supporting culture-building efforts and employee engagement initiatives
  • Managing a complex filing system
  • Coordinate and manage team meeting logistics, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and capturing accurate meeting notes and action items.
  • Maintain and update the team’s SharePoint communication site, ensuring content is current and relevant; manage user access and permissions to support secure and efficient collaboration.
  • Managing a complex background check process, ensuring compliance and timely completion
  • Maintaining and updating the department’s SharePoint communication site to ensure employees have access to timely and relevant information
  • Drafting and delivering clear, engaging communications tailored to diverse employee audiences
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of events and team-building activities that strengthen workplace culture
  • Coordinating employee engagement surveys and feedback tools to help assess and enhance overall employee satisfaction
  • Coordinating offboarding activities to ensure a smooth, professional transition experience for departing employees
  • Excellent communicator with an ability to adapt tone and approach for a variety of individuals with varying personal and professional circumstances
  • Foster and maintain effective relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple human resources functions, operations, strategic initiatives, and programs simultaneously.

Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Advanced skills in SharePoint Content Management, Microsoft Office Suite – (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Power Automate)
  • Experience with NeoGov Onboard or equivalent
  • Supporting a multi-month onboarding program to ensure a seamless new hire experience
  • Managing a complex background check process, ensuring compliance and timely completion
  • Coordinating offboarding activities
  • Facilitate/manage small and large group presentations and meetings
  • Event organization & planning

Special Requirements:DMV record checks and criminal background checks on all hires 18 years of age and older.


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm for 37.5hrs/wk. Must be able to work some nights, weekends and holidays when required to meet operational needs. This is a telework eligible position that may revert to in office as business needs warrant.

Starting Salary Range: $30.28 - $35.63/hr. We also offer excellent benefits and perks to include:
