Job summary

LLH Healthcare in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead day-to-day HR operations for both salaried and hourly staff in our onsite office. This hands-on role partners with leaders to advise on employee relations, payroll, benefits, compensation, and compliance while fostering a positive workplace culture.

Job description

The HR Manager is responsible for leading the day to day HR operations that create a positive, compliant, and high performing workplace. This role serves as the primary resource for employee relations, ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies while supporting both salaried and hourly employees. This role is in office 5 days per week at our Birmingham office.

The HR Manager partners closely with leaders across the organization to provide guidance on employee issues, performance management, workplace investigations, compensation, payroll, benefits, and HR operations. This position requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable balancing strategic thinking with daily execution and enjoys building strong relationships throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations:
  • Serve as the primary advisor to managers and employees on workplace concerns, performance issues, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation.
  • Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial workplace investigations.
  • Partner with leaders on coaching, corrective action, performance improvement plans, and employee separations.
  • Foster a culture of respect, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and employment practices.
Payroll Administration:
  • Manage biweekly payroll processing through ADP.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy including new hires, promotions, compensation changes, bonuses, deductions, and terminations.
  • Audit payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and applicable wage and hour laws.
  • Partner with Finance to resolve payroll discrepancies and continuously improve payroll processes.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Lead the administration of the organization's compensation and benefits programs.
  • Partner with leadership to develop and maintain competitive compensation structures, salary ranges, and pay practices.
  • Conduct market pricing and compensation analyses to support hiring, promotions, and internal equity.
  • Manage annual compensation planning, merit increases, incentive programs, and compensation recommendations.
  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefit vendors and brokers, ensuring effective program administration and issue resolution.
  • Lead annual Open Enrollment and employee benefits education.
  • Ensure compensation and benefits programs remain competitive, cost effective, and compliant with applicable regulations.
HR Operations and Leadership Support:
  • Manage day to day HR operations supporting both salaried and hourly employees.
  • Maintain employee records and HR documentation while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities.
  • Manage the interactive process for reasonable workplace accommodations as needed.
  • Coach managers on employee management best practices and organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and executive leadership on workforce planning and organizational initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee engagement, and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and recommend updates to HR policies and procedures as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • 5+years of experience managing employee relations in a multi department environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with compensation planning, salary administration, and benefits management.
  • Experience processing payroll using ADP Workforce Now or a comparable ADP platform.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried workforces.
  • Strong investigation, conflict resolution, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
  • PHR or SHRM CP certification preferred.

This is a full time, onsite position based in Birmingham, Alabama. Regular in office attendance five days per week is required to effectively support employees, managers, and business operations.
