We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HR Generalist with 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources. This individual will play a key role in supporting the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, orientation, benefits, leave administration and offboarding. The HR Generalist will also serve as a resource for employees and managers in resolving HR-related issues, ensure compliance with HR policies, and lead efforts to organize and restructure employee files.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Human Resources Generalist located in (lower Manhattan) New York, NY. The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining HR policies and procedures, managing employee benefits, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and providing support to employees and management on HR-related matters. Key responsibilities include administering employee onboarding and offboarding processes, benefits, leave administration, handling record-keeping, and supporting performance management efforts. The role also involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of human resources laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Onboarding & Orientation
- Manage the new hire onboarding process, including pre-employment paperwork, system setup, and first-day activities.
- Conduct engaging orientation sessions to introduce employees to company culture, policies, and procedures.
Offboarding
- Oversee the offboarding process, including exit interviews, system terminations, and final documentation.
- Identify trends from exit feedback to inform retention strategies.
HR Support & Employee Relations
- Serve as a first point of contact for employees and managers on HR-related inquiries.
- Provide guidance on policies, procedures, and compliance issues.
- Troubleshoot HR system and process challenges, escalating when needed.
- Questions regarding FMLA, PFL, Disability and Workers Compensation.
Records & Compliance
- Organize, audit, and restructure employee personnel files to ensure accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
- Maintain up-to-date HR records, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
HR Systems & Reporting
- Utilize HRIS for employee data management, reporting, and process improvements.
- Support HR data integrity and prepare reports as needed or requested
Projects & Initiatives
- Support HR projects, such as policy updates, process improvements, and training initiatives.
- Assist in compliance audits and prepare necessary documentation.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Human Resources (HR) practices and policies
- Experience in Employee Benefits and Benefits Administration
- Experience with administration of PFL, FMLA, Disability and Workers Compensation
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Self-starter/takes initiative
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements
- Bachelors' degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in an HR role or similar position
- Proficiency in HR software and tools
- Proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot table, etc.)
- Proactively identifies issues and develops effective solutions.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Builds positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Maintains accuracy and thoroughness in documentation and compliance.
- $90-$100k based on experience.
