Job summary

Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) seeks a Human Resources Generalist at Mesa Community College to manage onboarding, offboarding, and HR programs. You will maintain records, support performance management processes, and ensure compliant HR practices within a large, public education system.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Onboarding/Offboarding: leads onboarding/offboarding, coordinates sessions, tracks evaluations, and supports employee transitions.
  • Projects/Reporting: coordinates HR projects, maintains guidelines, creates reports, and handles verifications of employment.
  • Supervision/Training/Development: oversees receptionist, develops training programs, and supports college HR events.
  • File Management: handles confidential HR/payroll documents, audits files, maintains HR records.

Job Summary

Are you a people-focused Human Resources professional who enjoys building positive workplace relationships and making a meaningful impact? We're looking for a Human Resources Generalist who thrives in a collaborative environment, values integrity, and is passionate about supporting employees throughout their career journey. As a trusted resource for the college community, you will play a key role in onboarding and offboarding employees, coordinating HR programs and initiatives (such as performance management), maintaining organizational records, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures. In this role, you'll partner with leaders and team members across the organization to foster an engaging workplace culture while ensuring HR practices are compliant, efficient, and employee-centered. The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive problem-solver, and collaborative HR professional who excels at managing multiple priorities, communicating effectively, and delivering high-quality service in a higher education environment.

Essential Functions

Onboarding/Offboarding 40%

Serves as lead for MCC's Onboarding and Offboarding programs; maintains MCC's New Employee Orientation training course and conducts regular employee and supervisor onboarding sessions; tracks probationary employees during onboarding processes and communicates with employee and supervisor regarding tasks and evaluations; coordinates performance management annual evaluation cycle; addresses employee separation and transfer transactions and communications; conducts employee exit interviews; assists supervisors in developing workplace and job expectations; processes new hire intake and assists/backups front reception desk, including issuing employee badges

Projects/Reporting 30%

Coordinates special projects including researching, creating, testing, recommending and implementing approved programs to ensure best practices and success in all college human resources functions; reviews and revises HR college guidelines and processes; processes position management requests related to staffing needs, reporting changes, budgetary needs, and position clean‑up; serves on district and college committees; develops, customizes, and maintains spreadsheets and reports; responds to requests for Verifications of Employment; maintains College Organizational Chart; utilizes Procurement Card for departmental purchases; addresses Peak Week change requests

Supervision/Training/Development 20%

Supervises and evaluates HR Department receptionist; facilitates college training and development programs, including in-person and virtual lectures on various HR related topics and District HR initiatives; assists in the design, maintenance, and implementation of a college wide employee development program; supports district‑wide HR events at the college such as the annual Benefits Expo; assists with college employee events; coordinates and provides training for front desk support duties

File Management 10%

Processes a variety of confidential human resource and payroll documents for new and current employees with a high degree of accuracy, including but not limited to I-9, E-Verify, name change, and tax forms; tracks work authorization expirations; designs, develops, and maintains HR website (requires Drupal training); responsible for HR personnel file management, including routine auditing in accordance with the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records (LAPR) Retention Schedule as well as Higher Learning Accreditation (HLC) file tracking; maintains HR owned email distribution lists; responds to inter-college file requests; other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of work experience in one or more areas of human resources, such as onboarding, offboarding, performance management, training and development, or HR operations.

An equivalent combination of the education and/or experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • A. Experience coordinating employee onboarding and offboarding programs
  • B. Experience with performance management programs and processes
  • C. Experience facilitating training presentations and/or providing coaching to teams
  • D. Experience maintaining confidential personnel records and ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws, records retention requirements, and HR policies
  • E. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and learning management systems preferred
  • F. Experience working in human resources within a community college, higher education, public sector, or similarly complex organization
  • G. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years
Special Working Conditions

Standard work schedule varies during the year: August through mid‑May: Monday - Friday, 8 hour days; mid-May through the end of July: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days

Required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor

May be required to travel or be assigned to another MCCD location

Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
