Job summary

Great Western Dining Service is seeking a Human Resource Generalist to support the daily functions of the HR department throughout the employee life cycle and compliance with employment laws.

You will manage onboarding, background checks, HRIS/Payroll activities, and payroll support while maintaining confidential records and providing employee guidance. A Bachelor's in HR and 1+ year experience are preferred, with PHR a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
  • PHR certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Onboarding management and background checks, including employee eligibility verifications.
  • Process separations/status changes in HRIS/Payroll systems.
  • Manage HRIS/Payroll system access changes.
  • Maintain employee files in electronic and paper form.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and leave programs.
  • Assist with payroll processing and employee tax changes.
  • Handle inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors; refer complex matters.
  • Support HR inquiries and provide timely correspondence to employees.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain HR records and logs.
  • Assist in development and implementation of HR policies.

Human Resource Generalist

The Human Resource Generalist will support the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department. They will have a broad knowledge of HR functions during the entire life cycle of the employee’s employment.

Responsibilities
  • Manages the onboarding process and documentation. Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Process separations/status changes from organization in HRIS/Payroll system.
  • Manages HRIS/Payroll system including changes in access for employees
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave administration.
  • Assist with payroll processing. Responsible for Direct Deposit, Rapid Cards and employee tax changes.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Support internal and external inquiries and requests related to Human Resources.
  • Generates correspondence for employees as needed.
  • Provide support to employees in various HR related topics such as leaves, time and attendance, benefits, and HRIS/Payroll system.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Assist in development and implementation of human resources policies.
  • Develop and maintain various logs and other record-keeping systems.
  • Performs other HR generalist and clerical duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational skills coupled with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Ability to keep confidential information.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, HRIS), data processing, HR and Payroll software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
  • PHR a plus.
