Director of Human Resources at Controlled Holdings

Human Resources Director

Controlled Holdings, an ‘Indiana Best Places to Work’ award-winner (11 times... but who’s counting) and an industry-leading distributor of HVAC controls, is currently seeking a dynamic and engaging HR Director to lead our People Ops team. This position will focus on creating a positive, morale-driven work environment that prioritizes employee engagement and puts people first (see Core Value #1).

This role is not about policy policing, outdated processes, or corporate red tape. We live in the gray area where people come first, culture matters most, and HR is about creating an environment where employees genuinely want to be. If you thrive in a non-traditional, fast-moving, and high-energy workplace where HR is all about people, not paperwork... we want to meet you.

As an HR Director, you’ll be at the heart of our employee experience. You will lead with positivity, drive morale, and make Controlled Holdings a place where people love to work. You’ll also oversee key functions like payroll, benefits, recruiting, and company-engagement events—all with a focus on keeping things engaging, fun, and not corporate.

Core Values:

  1. Start with people first
  2. Own it
  3. Solve problems at their core
  4. Operate with Urgency
  5. Never stop learning
  6. Demand excellence, not perfection
  7. Work hard while having fun

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and support all aspects of People Operations with a focus on enhancing employee engagement, morale, and culture.
  2. Oversee the payroll and benefits team, ensuring smooth and accurate payroll processes and compliance with all regulations.
  3. Lead the recruiting team, ensuring we attract, hire, and retain top talent who align with our values and goals (not just filling an open seat).
  4. Manage and organize company-engagement events, creating opportunities for employees to connect, celebrate milestones, and enjoy a strong sense of community.
  5. Create and drive employee engagement initiatives that make Controlled Holdings a place where people thrive.
  6. Champion employee development and growth, because when our people succeed, we all do.
  7. Work closely with senior leadership to ensure the company’s people strategy aligns with business goals, and foster a positive company culture.
  8. Oversee employee relations, resolve conflicts, and create a transparent and open environment where employees feel valued and heard.
  9. Develop and execute company-wide programs, events, and activities that drive employee morale and engagement.
  10. Ensure compliance with HR laws and regulations, while maintaining the focus on creating a supportive and inclusive environment.

What We Are Looking For:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management, with a proven track record of managing people and driving employee engagement initiatives.
  2. Experience overseeing payroll, benefits, recruitment, and events management, ensuring alignment with company culture and employee satisfaction.
  3. Demonstrated success in creating and nurturing a positive company culture and driving employee morale.
  4. A natural leader who can mentor, inspire, and bring out the best in people.
  5. Experience in implementing and driving People Operations strategies, with an emphasis on employee experience and engagement.
  6. Ability to think strategically while executing day-to-day operations with a hands-on approach.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  8. Enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about putting People first.

What We Can Offer:

  1. A work environment where we take ourselves lightly and our work seriously
  2. A hybrid set up
  3. Opportunities for personal and professional growth
  4. Employee initiatives that promote work-life balance
  5. A fun and positive team culture
  6. Competitive compensation package, including generous benefits and PTO

The Perks:

  1. On Wednesdays we… Eat donuts
  2. Generous PTO, including your Birthday off (HBD!)
  3. 401k with company match
  4. Full Medical & Ancillary Benefits
  5. A workplace that feels more like a community than a corporation

At Controlled Holdings, we are committed to building a great company and a great place to work. We constantly brainstorm, collaborate, drink way too many diet cokes, and enjoy what we do. Join our People Ops team to make a lasting impact, have fun, and grow with us.
