Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Human Resources Coordinator. The Human Resources Coordinator will provide employee support, with a strong focus on onboarding, leave of absence administration, and benefits management. Founded in 1924, our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education, and health law in a five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett). Legal Aid employs over 150 staff and operates five offices and numerous units, programs, and projects throughout its service area. Our clients and their legal issues are diverse and numerous. The Human Resources Coordinator will work to advance and support the needs of the staff and program as we work with our clients.
Responsibilities:- Recruitment and Onboarding:
- Assist with the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening applications, and scheduling interviews.
- Coordinate and conduct new employee orientation sessions, ensuring a positive onboarding experience.
- Leave of Absence Management:
- Administer employee leaves, including FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, personal leave, and other applicable leave types, in accordance with federal and state laws and ALAS policies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding leave inquiries, providing clear guidance on eligibility, procedures, and required documentation.
- Track and monitor leave requests, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely communication with employees and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate the return-to-work process for employees on leave.
- Benefits Administration:
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits programs.
- Serve as a resource for employee benefits inquiries, providing accurate information and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations.
- Assist with the annual benefits open enrollment process.
- HR Transactional Processes:
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of HR-related documentation, including new hire paperwork, employee changes, and terminations, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS (Human Resources Information System).
- Employee Support and Relations:
- Provide basic advice, consultation, and assistance to employees and managers on routine personnel issues.
- Assist in the resolution of work-related problems, escalating complex issues to the Director of HR as needed.
- Training and Development:
- Assist in the coordination of departmental training programs for employees.
- Policy and Procedure Support:
- Interpret and disseminate personnel-related information and regulations to employees.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Demonstrated experience in administering Leave of Absence programs (e.g., FMLA, STD, LTD) and managing employee benefits.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, particularly those related to leave and benefits.
- Experience with HRIS systems and proficiency in using spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with employees at all levels.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Atlanta Legal Aid.
Education and Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Human Resources, with specific experience in leave of absence administration and benefits management, is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a nonprofit or legal services environment is a plus.
- National HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) are a plus.
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and previous work with low-income people, with an appreciation for diversity, is strongly preferred
Salary and Benefits:- The salary is $57,000, depending on work experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
