Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking an Athletics/Activities Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all facets of the sport. You will foster a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes, collaborating with students, faculty, and parents under the Athletic Director.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, prior coaching success, and a commitment to diversity and academic growth of student-athletes.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid IL Teaching Certificate or ASEP/NFHS Certification.
• CPR and AED certification required for all high school athletic coaches.
• IHSA concussion awareness training and related safety protocols.
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance.
• Federal Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
• In-depth sport knowledge: rules, techniques and strategy.
• Prior successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
• Strong instructional skills in fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning.
• Commitment to a diverse, inclusive athletic program.
• Coaching Certification required for non-teaching staff (ASEP/NFHS/IHSA-approved).
• Concussion certification valid for two years.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head Coach to design drills, practice plans and conditioning.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics: equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, scorekeeping.
• Maintain inventory and coordinate repairs of athletic equipment.
• Monitor adherence to IHSA rules, district policies and safety protocols.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and manage required documentation.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents and staff.
• Participate in preseason meetings, trainings and postseason tasks.
• Assist with game schedules and travel logistics; support budgeting and orders.
• Prepare materials for parent/booster meetings and disseminate updates.
• Coordinate compliance documentation under the Head Coach's direction.
