Job summary

Iowa Department of Education is seeking a Human Resources Professional 1 to lead employee relations, onboarding, recruiting, payroll processing, and policy development. The role requires collaboration with agency managers to ensure compliance and effective HR operations.

The successful candidate will guide managers on HR policies, manage onboarding experiences, and support retention strategies while handling unemployment claims and related processes.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
• A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience in technical or professional human resources work.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work performing technical human resources work.

Responsibilities

• Consult with agency managers on employee-related issues and ensure compliance with Iowa Code and agency policies.
• Provide guidance on FMLA and other leave programs; assist with reasonable accommodation processes.
• Develop and maintain HR policies; interpret state and federal laws.
• Respond to unemployment claim notices and participate in fact-finding interviews.
• Oversee onboarding, orientation, and retention initiatives; coordinate with leaders to ensure proper tools and training.
