Job summary

Beacon Hill in California seeks an HR & Payroll Manager to oversee HR operations and payroll for a multi-state workforce. This highly visible role covers employee relations, recruiting, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, and payroll support.

You will serve as the primary HR resource, manage full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws while maintaining HRIS data and supporting workforce planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent HR experience.
• 5+ years HR experience.
• Experience in professional services a plus.
• Experience processing or overseeing payroll.
• Strong knowledge of California employment laws.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.

This is a highly visible role that combines employee relations, recruiting, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, and payroll support.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources

• Serve as the primary HR resource for employees and managers
• Manage full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding
• Handle employee relations matters, investigations, and performance management
• Administer benefits, leave programs, and HR policies
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
• Maintain employee records and HRIS data
• Support employee engagement, training, and culture-building initiatives
• Partner with leadership on workforce planning and HR initiatives

Payroll

• Process and audit payroll for accuracy and compliance
• Review timesheets, PTO, deductions, bonuses, and employee changes
• Respond to payroll-related questions and resolve discrepancies
• Support payroll reporting, year-end processing, and audits
• Coordinate with payroll and benefits providers

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent HR experience
• 5+ years of HR experience
• Prior experience with professional services
• Experience processing or overseeing payroll
• Strong knowledge of California employment laws
