Job summary

Paylocity is seeking an Assistant Director of Human Resources in New Jersey to lead HR operations, support the Vice President, and translate strategic priorities into effective day-to-day practices. The role leads HR staff, handles complex employee matters, and collaborates on workforce planning, compensation, and development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of federal and New Jersey employment laws, HR regulations, and best practices.
• Broad HR leadership experience across employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits, performance management, compliance, training, and HR systems.
• Proven ability to lead and develop HR staff and provide direction, coaching, and accountability.
• Experience managing complex employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, and separations.
• Written and verbal proficiency in English; Spanish highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight to the HR Manager, HR Generalist, and other HR staff.
• Oversee daily HR operations, ensure priorities and service standards are met.
• Translate VP priorities into actionable assignments and deliverables.
• Coach HR staff to strengthen skills and independent decision-making.
• Lead complex workplace investigations and employee relations issues.
• Support workforce planning, compensation, performance management, and training initiatives.
• Monitor HR metrics and HRIS data for accuracy and improvements.
