Job summary

forgirlslikeme is seeking an HR professional to own the full hiring process across Chicago and Harvey, including posting roles, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and preparing offers.

You will run onboarding, verify I-9/work authorization, maintain confidential employee files, track trainings, and keep handbooks and policies current while assisting staff with questions about roles, benefits, and workplace rules.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in human resources, recruiting, or administration; nonprofit experience a plus, not required.
• Working knowledge of hiring, onboarding, I-9 verification, and employee recordkeeping.
• HR certification (such as SHRM-CP or PHR) is a plus, not required.
• Strong organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Comfortable with common office and productivity software and online HR or payroll systems.
• Valid driver's license for occasional multi-site travel.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full hiring process — posting roles, reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, checking references, and preparing offer letters
• Run new-hire onboarding, including role acknowledgments, I-9 and work authorization verification, background checks, direct deposit, system access, and orientation
• Maintain accurate, confidential employee files, including offer letters, signed disclosures, and onboarding records
• Track required staff trainings and renewals, and follow up so everyone stays current
• Keep FGLM's employee handbook and HR policies current, and make sure staff know where to find them
• Answer staff questions about roles, schedules, benefits, and workplace policies, and help resolve workplace concerns fairly and confidentially
• Coordinate with payroll and the Executive Director on compensation, employment type, and status changes
• Handle staff changes and departures, including updating records and access
