Job summary

HR Manager | Brooklyn, NY $95,000 $110,000

About the Role

A mission-driven nonprofit serving multiple community programs is seeking a Human Resources Manager to be the trusted HR partner across the organization. Working closely with the Chief HR Officer, program directors, and staff at every level, you'll own the full employee lifecycle from compliance and performance management to employee relations while helping build a workplace culture rooted in the agency's values. This is a hands‑on, strategic role for an HR professional who thrives on balancing policy with people.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Compliance
  • Serve as point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution
  • Coach and counsel management through employee relations issues and recommend corrective/disciplinary action
  • Conduct internal investigations to ensure timely resolution of employee relations issues
  • Facilitate voluntary and involuntary separation processes
  • Ensure compliance with company Policies and Procedures and all applicable federal, state, local, and funder regulations
Culture, Performance & Development
  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture reflecting the organization's values
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and retention strategies
  • Coordinate performance review processes and coach managers on feedback, goal setting, and development plans
  • Support training and employee wellness efforts aligned with the agency's mission
  • Partner with leadership on organizational development and workforce planning strategies
HR Operations & Reporting
  • Oversee personnel records, including I-9 forms, background checks, and HRIS data integrity
  • Maintain and improve HR processes and documentation
  • Leverage HRIS systems for recordkeeping, reporting, and process efficiency
  • Generate HR reports and analytics for leadership and Board reporting as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Master's or PHR/SPHR preferred
  • 5 years of progressive HR experience
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit, social services, or community-based organization strongly preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices, including policy development and workplace safety
  • Familiarity with full-cycle recruitment, job descriptions, candidate evaluation, and onboarding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex policies to diverse audiences
  • Skilled in mediating conflicts and facilitating productive conversations
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with UKG Ready a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
