  • Knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO and I-9 requirements.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS and payroll systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll across multiple states.

HR Generalist

Salary Range: $65,000.00 To $70,000.00 Annually

Purpose: The HR Generalist is a hands-on, compliance-focused member of the People & Culture team responsible for day-to-day HR support across the employee lifecycle. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for payroll, benefits, leaves of absence, employee records, offboarding, employment documentation, and I-9/immigration compliance. The HR Generalist provides accurate, responsive support to employees and leaders while maintaining confidentiality, sound judgment, and consistent application of company policies and employment requirements. Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
Payroll, Benefits & Leave Administration
  • Manage the end-to-end, multi-state, payroll process, including employee changes, timekeeping review, deductions, garnishments, bonus or commission inputs, payroll audits, issue resolution, and payroll compliance.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, employee questions, vendor coordination, invoice review, annual open enrollment, and required notices.
  • Coordinate leaves of absence and workplace accommodation processes, including FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, workers' compensation coordination, state or local leave requirements, and return-to-work documentation.
  • Support total compensation administration by maintaining accurate compensation records, assisting with salary benchmarking, and ensuring approved pay changes are documented and processed timely.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Compliance & Employee Records
  • Monitor and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, wage and hour requirements, required postings, record-retention rules, and internal policies for a multi-state organization.
  • Complete, audit, and maintain Form I-9 and employment authorization documentation; coordinate immigration or visa-related compliance with authorized partners as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel, payroll, benefit, leave, and compliance records in the HRIS and approved filing systems; conduct periodic data and file audits.
  • Prepare employment verifications, employee letters, status-change documentation, required notices, and other HR correspondence in English and Spanish when appropriate.
  • Maintain HR standard operating procedures, forms, templates, and compliance calendars to support consistent and audit-ready HR practices.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Employee Lifecycle & HR Operations
  • Help coordinate onboarding administration, including new-hire paperwork, HRIS setup, benefits and policy guidance, orientation support, and timely completion of required documentation.
  • Coordinate offboarding administration and termination communications, including final-pay inputs, benefit notices, system and property checklists, personnel documentation, and record updates.
  • Serve as an accessible point of contact for employee and leader’s questions regarding payroll, benefits, leaves, policies, procedures, and general HR policies & processes.
  • Support and participate in VBC culture and engagement activities, help to plan, organize and communicate culture events and/or meetings, post/highlight activities internally and externally, participate and encourage our recognition programs, and introduce ideas for other People & Culture initiatives.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of progressive HR Generalist experience with hands-on responsibility for payroll, benefits administration, leaves of absence, compliance, employee records, HR operations, and multi-state compliance.
  • Working knowledge of federal and multi-state employment laws and HR compliance practices, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, I-9 requirements, and wage and hour administration.
  • Demonstrated experience processing multi-state payroll and resolving payroll discrepancies with a high level of accuracy.
  • Experience coordinating benefit plans, open enrollment, leave processes, and employee benefit inquiries.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS, payroll, benefits, timekeeping, and Microsoft Office systems; ability to learn new platforms quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SHRM- CP or PHR, payroll, benefits, or related professional certification.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing, distribution, beauty, consumer products, or multi-department work environment.
  • Experience with immigration or visa administration, compensation benchmarking, workers' compensation, or HR audits.

  • High attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, integrity, and the ability to protect confidential employee and business information.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and the ability to explain HR processes clearly to employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the People & Culture team and cross-functional partners.
