Job summary

Family Promise of West Michigan seeks a Housing Specialist to work with landlords, program participants, and case managers to secure housing, inspect units, and maintain housing inventory. You will educate participants on tenancy, complete inspections, and assist with rent reasonableness checklists and housing-related documentation.

This in-person role may allow remote work; you will travel between FPWM locations and must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with landlords and housing partners.
• Knowledge of West Michigan rental market.
• Knowledge of rental assistance programs and fair housing laws.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with finding prospective landlord partners by visiting properties and presenting to associations/groups.
• Inspect FPWM leased units monthly and document findings.
• Educate program participants on tenancy, rights, move-in checklists, and housing documentation.
• Complete rent reasonableness checklists and housing inspections.
• Review rental market, laws, and compliance with landlords and tenants; promote fair housing.
• Develop and maintain housing inventory to match participants with suitable options.
• Provide mediation with landlords to resolve issues and keep families housed.
• Maintain communication with landlords, tenants, case managers, and partners.
