Job summary

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) seeks an attorney to join our eviction defense team. You will represent tenants facing unlawful detainer actions and handle all stages of litigation from pleadings to trial, working with a passionate group of advocates.

The role is hybrid, requiring on-site presence at least two days per week with some remote work, and occasional travel across Los Angeles County to program offices and courthouses.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active California State Bar license or eligibility to register within 30 days.
• Strong research and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to advocating for low-income individuals.

Responsibilities

• Defend tenants in unlawful detainer cases, advocating for housing stability.
• Manage a varied caseload with personalized, high-quality legal assistance.
• Create and conduct training for community partners and Know Your Rights workshops.
• Maintain relationships with community partners through provider meetings.
• Travel as required to program offices, courthouses, and other LA County locations.
