Job summary

Children’s Rescue Fund in New York, NY is seeking a housing program assistant to guide relocation specialists and support families moving into permanent housing. You’ll supervise staff, coordinate with DHS/landlords, and analyze housing data for timely placements.

Ideal candidates have a degree in social services and 4+ years of related housing experience, with strong communication and organizational skills. On-site position with occasional travel in the NYC area.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Human Services required.
  • Minimum 4 years housing-related experience, including two years with families, and in low-income housing settings.
  • Experience in group facilitation, housing advocacy, and homeless population work preferred.
  • Knowledge of housing issues and tenant/landlord laws desirable.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills.
  • Valid New York State driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel; able to learn new technologies and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in guiding housing relocation specialists and supervise housing staff as needed.
  • Orient and train housing staff; provide daily guidance to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Coordinate with DHS and landlords on move-in schedules, leases, rents, and utilities.
  • Track applications, housing packages, and placement for families to meet targets.
  • Administer the HRA – Pact system and monitor 2010e housing applications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with housing providers and agencies including Veterans Administration.
  • Facilitate living workshops and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address barriers.
  • Monitor open/closed Public Assistance cases weekly; support staff during vacancies.
