Job summary

The City of St. Joseph is seeking a Housing Compliance Inspector to enforce the Rental Unit Certification Program and manage rental inspections under the Planning and Community Development Department.

The role also oversees the Vacant Registration Program and coordinates enforcement actions as needed. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years in a related field, strong communication skills, knowledge of city codes, and a valid Class E driver's license.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Background check and drug screening required.
• Ability to become licensed as a Housing Inspector within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Inspect rental units for compliance with the Property Maintenance Code.
• Tag unfit housing and reinspect for compliance.
