Job summary

The City of Maplewood is seeking a Housing Inspector to enforce housing, property maintenance, and nuisance codes through inspections of residential, rental, and multi-family properties in Maplewood.

This role focuses on administering the rental inspection program, conducting annual inspections, addressing citizen complaints, and enforcing ordinances to support public safety and neighborhood quality of life.

Responsibilities

• The Housing Inspector ensures compliance with adopted housing, property maintenance, and nuisance codes by performing inspections of residential, rental, and multi-family properties.
• Administers the City’s rental inspection program, including annual inspections of every licensed rental property in Maplewood.
• Addresses citizen complaints, enforces municipal ordinances, and supports public safety and quality of life through proactive and equitable code enforcement.
• Conducts routine and complaint-driven inspections to verify adherence to minimum habitability and safety standards, issues violation notices, prepares detailed reports, and maintains accurate case records.
• Responds to public inquiries, provides education and compliance guidance to property owners and tenants, and collaborates with other city departments and the Police Department for cross-functional enforcement efforts.
