City of Maplewood is seeking a Housing Inspector to enforce housing, property maintenance, and nuisance codes through thorough inspections of residential and rental properties. The role administers the City’s rental inspection program, with annual inspections required for all licensed rentals in Maplewood.
The inspector will respond to public inquiries, educate owners and tenants on compliance, and collaborate with Police and other departments to support safe, healthy neighborhoods.
The Housing Inspector ensures compliance with adopted housing, property maintenance, and nuisance codes by performing inspections of residential, rental, and multi-family properties. This position is primarily responsible for administering the City's rental inspection program, which requires annual inspection of every licensed rental property in Maplewood. The Housing Inspector also addresses citizen complaints, enforces municipal ordinances, and supports public safety and quality of life through proactive and equitable code enforcement.
The position conducts routine and complaint-driven inspections to verify adherence to minimum habitability and safety standards, issues violation notices, prepares detailed reports, and maintains accurate case records. The Housing Inspector responds to public inquiries, provides education and compliance guidance to property owners and tenants, and collaborates with other city departments and the Police Department for cross-functional enforcement efforts.
