Job summary

City of Detroit is seeking a Housing Compliance Inspector IV to perform inspections of single and multifamily residences to ensure HUD, state and local housing quality standards are met. The role supports compliance with contract specifications and coordinates with contractors and homeowners throughout projects.

The position requires knowledge of housing laws, inspection techniques, and construction methods, plus the ability to manage records, schedules, and communications with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of applicable state and city laws and standards relating to housing quality standards.
• Knowledge of inspection methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of relevant building trades and construction methods.
• Knowledge of practices and methods used in repair/maintenance of buildings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspection and evaluation of housing improvement projects.
• Coordinate meetings with contractors, project managers, engineers and homeowners.
• Prepare and send noncompliance letters to contractors to correct deficiencies.
• Verify re-inspection of units to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
