Job summary

Highgate Hotels in New York seeks an Engineering Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the engineering department. In the absence of the Director, the Manager handles administrative, financial and operating aspects related to engineering.

You will supervise maintenance, implement PM programs, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, manage equipment, fixtures and energy conservation, and lead a team of engineers and technicians to uphold Highgate standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or related field.
• Stationary engineer’s license if required by local code.
• HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills.
• Strong communication and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to meet safety and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest quality of service to the customer at all times.
• Deal promptly and efficiently with guest complaints and needs.
• Have a thorough knowledge of emergency and safety procedures.
• Respond to all emergency situations and be prepared to assist.
• Responsible for the ordering of supplies, tools and equipment and maintaining proper par levels to corporate department standards.
• Support, maintain and implement the department’s BOH preventive maintenance program.
• Assist with other duties as assigned and serve as “Building Manager” as required while maintaining and repairing the interior and exterior of the building.
• Represent and support the Chief Engineer in his absence to ownership, corporate executive leadership, contractors or other department heads.
• Create and implement a PM program for the back of the house areas.
• Create and implement a PM program for the mechanical equipment in the building.
• Review, adhere, and understand all safety procedures (such as LOTO).
• Perform maintenance checks of equipment and logs properly.
• Attend Daily Operations Meeting.
• Supervise and train all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures and Loss Prevention.
• Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of all workspaces, shops, and storage areas.
• Train and Supervise Building Managers on daily, weekly, monthly and yearly duties and responsibilities.
• Evaluate to Building Managers as necessary – Coordinate with HR.
• Maintain and obtain all licenses as needed by the NYC, NY State and other Government agencies needed for the building.
• Staff and direct the performance of the staff and follow-up with corrective action when needed.
• Adhere to all work rules, procedures, polices established by the company, including but not limited to those contained in the employee handbook.
• Experience with union issues.
• Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
• Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
• Ensure all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified per Highgate Hotel standards.
• Actively participate in energy conservation programs.
• Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Front Desk. Take immediate action as necessary.
• Support and participate in all Highgate Hotel programs.
• Lead and/or participate in Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
