Job summary

The Chief Engineer position at Highgate Hotels in downtown Miami oversees daily engineering operations for the 243-room boutique hotel, ensuring safe and compliant maintenance across property, equipment, and systems.

Lead Engineering staff, manage budgets and forecasts, coordinate preventive maintenance, and participate in energy conservation and safety initiatives within the Highgate portfolio.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Stationary Engineer’s license if required by local code.
• HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds in safe repair.
• Ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
• Supervise and train Engineering staff on customer service, empowerment, SOPs and loss prevention.
• Create and post Engineering staff schedules.
• Create and adhere to annual budget for the department.
• Assist in developing financial forecasts and participate in monthly profit/loss reviews.
• Implement preventative maintenance for all hotel equipment.
• Ensure emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected and certified.
• Participate in energy conservation programs.
• Review guest and meeting planner feedback to identify and address issues promptly.
• Ensure ADA compliance.
• Administer vendor contracts controlled by engineering.
• Handle room maintenance requests promptly.
• Follow up on alarms and report findings to Front Desk.
• Assist with special projects and renovations.
• Support and participate in Highgate Hotel programs.
• Participate in Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
