Job summary

HEI Hotels and Resorts seeks a seasoned Engineering lead to manage the hotel’s engineering department and maintain complex building systems. You will oversee Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Life Safety, and related equipment, ensuring compliance with procedures and budgets.

You will mentor staff, manage preventive maintenance, and optimize energy efficiency while coordinating with brand standards and other departments. This role requires flexibility and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Vocational schooling, military training, certification and/or experience in building related trades.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience at a comparable location.
• Hotel experience preferred.
• Knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labor relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, hospitality law, and long-range planning.
• Be skilled in several areas such as HVAC, electrical, carpentry, drywalling, painting, plumbing, roofing and landscaping with or without reasonable accommodation.
• ADA related Physical Demand: Frequent walking, climbing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, smiling, writing, in cramped noisy locations with extreme temperatures.
• Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff; ability to plan, organize, and delegate.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; adapt communication style to audience.

Responsibilities

• Assume control of the Engineering Department when the Chief Engineer is not available.
• Understand all building related systems and equipment - Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Life Safety, IT, HVACandR, Kitchen, Laundry, Pool, etc.
• Follow preventative maintenance procedures for guestrooms, public spaces, grounds, and building envelope.
• Maintain engineering records and filing for budget, PM programs, capital projects, and life safety inspections.
• Supervise, train, and assign tasks to engineering staff; ensure productivity.
• Monitor and maintain engineering spaces in a safe, energy-efficient manner.
• Tour hotel complex daily to identify items needing action by engineering or other departments.
• Be the property expert on Life Safety; train managers in these areas.
• Understand Brand procedures; manage GSS/GSI/AYS/DTS issues.
