Job summary

UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh is seeking Flex Full Time Hot Cooks to support inpatient dining, the cafeteria, and catered events.

The role involves preparing high-quality hot foods from standardized recipes, observing safety and sanitation standards, and maintaining a clean, inspection-ready work area.

Shifts vary (5am-1:30pm, 6am-2:30pm, 7am-3:30pm, 8am-4:30pm, 9:30am-6pm) with every other weekend and rotating holidays; some events may extend to 8pm.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required, or 1 year of previous food service experience.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to sanitation and food handling standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare high-quality hot foods per standardized recipes and production sheets.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and manage portions to meet service demands.
• Ensure a clean, inspection-ready work area and comply with SDS safety guidelines.
• Provide courteous guest service in daily operations.
• Chill, store, and record prepared and leftover foods per health guidelines.

UPMC Mercy is hiring Flex Full Time Hot Cooks to support the Dietary and Cafeteria department!

The Hot Cooks support Inpatient dining, the cafeteria and catered events.

This position will work varied days and times with every other weekend and rotating holidays. Shift times include 5am-1:30pm, 6am-2:30pm, 7am-3:30 pm, 8am-430pm, 9:30am-6pm. Possible shifts to 8pm due to catered events.

Purpose

Responsible for the preparation and service of high quality, nutritionally-appropriate foods that are satisfying to the guest. Observes safe food handling procedures and maintains sanitation of work area and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Complete in-advance preparation requirement for next day of service.
• Produce high quality hot food products according to standardized recipes and production sheet volume requirements.
• Prepare all foods within designated timeframes; monitor food usage throughout service to ensure volume needs are met.
• Adhere to departmental safe food handling procedures at all times.
• Maintain an inspection-ready work area on a consistent basis.
• Adhere to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information related to the proper and safe use of chemicals in the workplace. Store chemicals and cleaning supplies away from food production areas.
• Uses and maintains equipment according to manufacturer and department guidelines; follows all safety procedures.
• Provide a courteous and helpful customer service attitude on a daily basis.
• Chill, store, and record all prepared and leftover food in accordance to health department guidelines; maintain temperature cooling log documentation.

HS Diploma/GED OR 1 YR previous job experience required in lieu of HS Diploma/GED
