Position Overview
The Host/Hostess is responsible for managing the guest traffic at the door, including efficient seating and assignment to the server while creating a warm atmosphere for guests and building a culture of teamwork. Must be well organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate effective communication skills and deliver excellent customer service.
Full-Time or Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with the manager on duty to designate shift section assignments
- Manage guest waitlist
- Note and prepare for any special considerations including seating requests, table arrangements, celebrations, allergies, etc
- Ensure dining area is neat, clean and ready for service
- Escort guests to table as appropriate
- Answer phones in a warm and friendly manner, refer to handbook for scripting
- Monitor guest experience to ensure satisfied service and notify server appropriately
- Actively look for opportunities to exceed service standards, for example:
- Provide information regarding local area points of interest
- Help with directions, arrangements for transportation/accommodations if needed
- Find ways to make guest experience distinct and extraordinary
- Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return
- Report any complaints to manager as soon as they occur
- Perform side work, and end of shift duties as assigned
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Qualifications
- High School required
- 1-year experience in Food & Beverage preferred, but not necessary
- All employees are required to take Learn2Serve Training for Alcohol, Food Handling prior to or within 30 days of employment
- Demonstrate quality verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including evenings and weekends
