Job summary

Advocate Sherman Hospital in Illinois is seeking a full-time switchboard operator to support 24/7 communications. You will handle inbound/outbound calls, route to appropriate departments, and respond to emergency alarms. The role requires strong customer service, communication, and computer skills, with PBX experience preferred.

The position includes 40 hours per week with varying schedule, benefits eligibility, and opportunities for process improvement as part of the communications team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4-5 years experience in customer service in a healthcare setting.
• 2 years lead/coordinator experience or demonstrated leadership potential.
• At least 6 mos – 1 year PBX experience.
• 1-2 years PBS software experience.
• 1-2 years call center experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides general information to callers and assists hospital staff and departments.
• Places long distance and local calls as needed.
• Responds to alarms and emergency situations and communicates with Public Safety and ER.
• Operates the page system and PBX, including programming and reporting.
• Reviews schedules, time cards, and department communications.
• Maintains department information and supports performance improvement initiatives.
• Assists with operational duties to ensure efficient switchboard operations.
