Job summary

Advocate Health in Illinois is seeking a full-time communications operator at Advocate Sherman Hospital. This role supports switchboard operations, scheduling, paging, and emergency response, with a 40-hour workweek and varying shifts.

Responsibilities include answering inbound calls, directing callers to the appropriate department, reviewing time cards, maintaining department information, and providing accurate information to patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma; 4–5 years in healthcare customer service.
• 2 years lead/coordinator experience or leadership potential.
• 6 mos.–1 year PBX experience; 1–2 years PBS software experience; 1–2 years call center experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists manager with operational duties, performance improvement and/or process design activities.
• Provide one-on-one direction on departmental updates and workflow changes to maintain high accuracy.
• Compile daily and monthly statistics; monitor scheduling and audits.
• Answer incoming calls and route to appropriate department; provide information and emergency paging.
• Operate and maintain page system and department communications tools.
• Maintain department and nursing station information; assist with reports and documentation.
