Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join our hospital-based team. Under supervision of a pharmacist, you will process prescriptions, prepare medications, and support safe, efficient patient care in a fast-paced environment.

You will use Pyxis and Epic systems, maintain inventory, assist with non-sterile compounding, and participate in QA and training to uphold our standards of accuracy and patient safety.

Qualifications

• 18 years or older
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Massachusetts Pharmacy Tech License, Trainee License, or Intern license
• CPhT or equivalent National Technician Certification
• Knowledge of Epic (preferred)
• 2–5 years hospital setting experience (preferred)
• Quality Assurance experience (preferred)
• Medication reconciliation and 340b compliance knowledge (preferred)
• Information systems, prior authorizations, inventory management and prescription home delivery experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, processes prescription orders in a timely manner, retrieves, counts, measures and prepares medications, solutions, ointments, and other compounds as directed.
• Responsible for filling, pickup and delivery of patient specific medication, including packing, processing, and tracking orders.
• Supports the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximizes patient care outcomes.
• Obtains information for new prescriptions and/or reconciliation purposes accurately and in accordance to the law.
• Refers all clinician and customer clinical questions to a pharmacist in a timely manner.
• Retrieves and files pharmacy prescriptions, records, and logs in the appropriate files and in accordance to law.
• Prepare, label, and deliver medications accurately and safely using systems like Pyxis and Epic.
• Maintain inventory, check expiration dates, and ensure proper storage of pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Assist in receiving orders, compounding non-sterile mixtures, and pre-packaging medications.
• Handle hazardous medications and waste according to safety protocols and PPE guidelines.
• Support pharmacists with medication preparation, phone calls, and documentation.
• Conduct routine inspections of medication areas and participate in quality assurance activities.
• Train new technicians, pharmacy students and contribute to process improvements and departmental standards.
• If applicable, assist with enrollment process for patient support programs
• Participates in quality initiatives and process improvement efforts for prescription requests, prior authorizations, and education for providers, staff, and pharmacy updates
• Maintains knowledge with department policies and procedures and assists with reviews/revisions
• Supports change initiatives by adjusting work responsibilities
• Build trusting relationships with patients to support individualized, patient-centered care plans
• Adapts to departmental needs including assistance to other team members, floating, and compliance projects
