Job summary

UCSF in San Francisco seeks an Operations Manager for Food Service within Nutrition and Food Services. The role ensures quality, safety, and on-time food delivery across patient and retail services, overseeing inventory, forecasting, and staff coverage.

You will train across units, manage technology systems like Computrition and POS, and support problem solving, payroll, and staff evaluations while upholding HIPAA and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent certification/experience.
• Working knowledge in food service and sanitation regulations.
• Working verbal and written communication skills in English, including active listening and time management.
• Ability to make decisions, reason, solve problems, and conduct basic operations/quality control analysis.
• Strong interpersonal and supervisory guidance to staff and collaborators.
• Intermediate computer skills for food service apps including POS and inventory control.
• Cash handling and drawer reconciliation experience.
• At least one year of food service client interaction experience.
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience in a hospital or healthcare facility kitchen.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and presentation software.
• ServSafe Certification or equivalent, to be obtained within 6 months if not current.

Responsibilities

• Ensure QA controls for all foods in Patient and Retail Food Service per HACCP standards.
• Ensure timely delivery of food with correct temperatures and appearance.
• Maintain customer service standards and staff training.
• Oversee sanitation and safety procedures and conduct annual staff evaluations.
• Manage requisitions and inventory from storeroom.
• Maintain and troubleshoot technology systems for operations; communicate downtime.
• Forecasts and menus updated in Computrition.
• Support unit plans, schedules, and performance improvement projects.
• Monitor expenses including labor, food and supplies; help fix issues.
