Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Hospital Communications Specialist (Part-Time/50%) to coordinate responses of medical staff to emergencies, screen and direct communications, and operate the hospital paging system and Amcom call processing system. The role supports patients, staff, and external agencies and requires strong multitasking in a high‑intensity environment.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Two years of full-time clerical employment or equivalent.
• Experience in a call center or equivalent communications environment using computerized systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate response of internal and external staff to emergency situations.
• Execute hospital-wide communication procedures for outages, weather, and disasters.
• Monitor alarms and provide emergency escalation for alarms.
• Maintain release of information status in patient profiles.
• Assist users with communication technologies and provide call processing services.
