Job summary

Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Coder to assign and record accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS. The role requires reviewing physician documentation, querying for clarification, and entering data into the hospital’s automated grouper system.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of outpatient coding experience, a high school diploma, and either an AHIMA CCS/CCS-P or AAPC CPC certification, along with strong knowledge of

Qualifications

• Must have current certification as CCS, CCS-P, or CPC per AHIMA/ AAPC.
• Minimum of 1 year outpatient medical records coding experience in a hospital setting.
• Education: High school diploma; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HIM may substitute for 1 year of experience.
• Thorough knowledge of HCPCS, CPT and ICD codes; strong medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

Responsibilities

• Code diagnoses, procedures, and operations using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Ensure accurate APC/APG ranking; verify documentation and obtain clarifications as needed.
• Enter codes and narratives into automated grouper system.
• Respond to inquiries from hospital staff on documentation, coding and APCs/APGs.
• Abstract information from records for reports and statistics; enter data into hospital databases.
• Query providers as needed regarding documentation of diagnoses or procedures.
