Job summary

Amedisys seeks a Hospice Physician to lead high-quality end-of-life care across our Springfield care centers. You will coordinate with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other team members to design compassionate, patient-centered plans that honor wishes and comfort patients and families during the final stages of life.

Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, effective symptom control, and managing certifications and care plan updates, with on-call availability for emergencies

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice in the relevant state.
• Membership on the medical staff of at least one contracted hospital.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and agency-required liability insurance for home visits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive face-to-face patient assessments and manage palliative symptoms.
• Oversee admissions, discharges, certifications, recertifications, and medication management.
• Certify terminal prognosis at admission and at each recertification period.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to update hospice care plans.
• Provide on-call coverage for medical emergencies and consultations, including hospital, home, or facility visits.
• Maintain open communication with patients, families, and caregivers to support hospice journeys.
• Coordinate care with other providers to ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care.
