Job summary

VITAS Healthcare is seeking a Home Health Aide (HHA) to provide personal care and supportive services to hospice patients. This non-exempt role includes schedule Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, with mileage reimbursement and full benefits.

The HHA assists with hygiene, meals, mobility, treatments under nurse direction, and routine monitoring of vital signs, while promoting a safe, supportive home environment for patients and families.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; preferred for the role.
• Meets personnel qualifications of a Home Health Aide as specified in 42 C.F.R. Section 484.4 and Section 484.36.
• Documented evidence of 75 hours of training as specified in 42 C.F.R. Sections 484.36 (a)(1).
• Documented evidence that Home Health Aide has successfully completed a Competency Evaluation program as described in 42 C.F.R. Section 484.36(b).

Responsibilities

• Home Health Aide helps the patient maintain good personal hygiene.
• Plans and prepares meals; assists with feeding when needed.
• Assists patient ambulation and mobility.
• Assists with prescribed treatments under nurse direction and plan of care, including measurements and medication assistance.
• Reads and records temperature, pulse and respiration.
• Maintains a safe and healthy environment and supports patient mental alertness.
• Provides basic emotional and psychological support to patient, family, and other caregivers.
• Reports changes in condition or home situation to the VITAS Nurse and care team.
• Teaches basic personal care to the primary caregiver and participates in infection control practices.
