Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking an HIM Specialist to support hospice care teams by organizing and maintaining medical records, coordinating with interdisciplinary staff, and processing documentation with accuracy and efficiency.

Under supervision, the role includes preparing release forms, managing records requests, and assisting with IDT meetings while upholding privacy and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• 1 year of health care field experience or 1 year of customer service/administrative experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• General office skills including spelling, grammar, arithmetic and document production.

Responsibilities

• Generates and files appropriate patient information for the medical record in compliance with policy.
• Prepares and tracks MD orders and ensures timely sign-off.
• Runs reports to identify missing care plans and orders.
• Requests medical records from physicians, hospitals, and families.
• Prints document packets for patient transfers and coordinates with teams.
