Job summary

Luminary Hospice is seeking a hospice aide who will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to support patients in their end-of-life journey. Responsibilities include personal care, safety, documentation, and compassionate communication with patients and families.

Requirements include Active STNA/CNA certification, completed training hours, CPR certification, reliable transportation, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Active STNA or CNA certification required in the state.
• Meets required state training standards.
• Minimum 75 hours classroom plus supervised practical training.
• At least 18 years old.
• Able to read, follow instructions and document care.
• Understands hospice philosophy and approach to terminal illness.
• Satisfactory references from previous employers.
• Self-directed with minimal supervision and calm demeanor.
• Empathy for ill, injured, or frail individuals.
• CPR certification maintained.
• Driver with insured vehicle in good condition.
• Complete probationary period with supervisor documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform personal care tasks after assignment and report to Case Manager if needed.
• Communicate with patient and family using respectful, confidential care.
• Ensure safety needs are met; use equipment properly.
• Provide baths, hygiene, hair care, and bed linen changes.
• Assist with dressing and undressing.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals; assist with feeding.
• Take and record vitals when ordered.
• Care for skin to prevent breakdown and monitor condition changes.
• Report patient condition changes to Case Manager.
• Assist with ambulation and exercise as directed.
• Provide ROM and transfers as instructed.
• Assist with reminders for self-administered meds as allowed.
• Assist with bedpans/urinals and light laundry as needed.
• Perform simple procedures as ordered by therapists.
• Provide respite for patient, family, or caregiver when on-site.
• Maintain clean, orderly living area; follow care procedures.
• Participate in QA/PI activities and maintain professional conduct.
