Job summary

Luminary Hospice seeks a dedicated hospice aide to support patients in their end-of-life journey. under RN supervision, you will observe, report, and document care to promote comfort and safety in the patient’s home environment.

You will perform personal care tasks, assist with meals and mobility, monitor vital signs, and support families with compassionate communication. Training and CPR certification are required.

Qualifications

• Active STNA or CNA certification as required by state.
• Meets the training requirements of the State.
• Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training. Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed before a mandatory 16 hours of practical training.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
• Understands hospice philosophy and is comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
• Satisfactory references from previous employers.
• Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision. Comfortable with death/dying.
• Has empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and the impaired.
• Possess and maintain CPR certification.
• Demonstrates tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
• Licensed driver with an automobile insured and in good working order.
• Complete a probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Performing personal care needs after given a patient’s assignment and attending to requests promptly.
• Providing patient and family with positive communication techniques, within the realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality.
• Meeting the safety needs of the patient and using equipment safely and properly.
• Giving personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen.
• Assisting in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
• Planning and preparing nutritious meals, including shopping.
• Assisting in feeding the patient as assigned.
• Taking and recording vital signs as ordered.
• Providing proper care and observation of the patient’s skin to prevent breakdown.
• Assessing and reporting on the patient’s condition and changes to the Case Manager.
• Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
• Provide range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed.
• Assistance with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations.
• Assisting with bedpans and urinals; light laundry assistance.
• Performing range of motion and other procedures as ordered with competency.
• Providing respite for patient/family/caregiver when on-site.
• Keeping the patient’s living area clean and orderly.
• Adhering to documentation and care procedures and professional conduct.
• Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement teams.
• Respectful of patient and family/caregiver environment.
