Job summary

Tidelands Health is seeking a Histotechnologist II to perform routine histology, including fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and special stains). The role involves collaboration with pathologists, accessioning, QC documentation, and LIS usage.

A relevant degree and ASCP certification are required or preferred, with a strong emphasis on patient safety and accurate specimen handling.

Qualifications

• Associate degree with biology and chemistry credits required.
• Bachelor's degree with biology/chemistry credits required.
• 1 year histology lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign correct accession numbers for logged specimens.
• Select appropriate processing schedules for each run; adjust for weekends/holidays.
• Notify senior tech of discrepancies with tissue processors per protocols.
• Ensure timely turnaround times and correct tissue orientation for embedding.
• Cut slides with correct orientation and thickness for tissue type.
• Prepare and maintain solutions for H&E staining; ensure consistent staining.
• Set up and monitor automated slide stainer for maximum throughput.
• Process non-gyn specimens.
• Recognize acceptable vs. unacceptable staining; include controls with each case.
• Assist pathologist and staff with FNA process.
